In the BlogLight: My new(ish) hobby!

Hey everyone, today I wanted to talk about one of my new favourite hobbies! I’ve always been a fan of drawing, I’m pretty average at it but one thing I always wanted to try was digital drawing. During the last few weeks, I’ve needed something relaxing and time consuming to help the days go by a bit smoother, and I think I found the perfect hobby.

I bought a Wacom tablet in Argos for under €80, and it was one of the best purchases I have ever made. I have seen a proper change in my level of drawing in the few weeks I have owned it. I used the standard Wacom software that came with the device to draw at first, but couldn’t make any sense of it, so I began to use Photoshop which was a much better option. Photoshop is primarily a photography app, but you can use it entirely for drawing also!

Deadpool was my first drawing! I put a few hours into it because I was trying to figure out how to draw properly and this is what I ended up with. I had no idea how to blend at this point, but I liked sticking to blacks, greys and reds for this piece. I was quite proud of this! I found drawing digitally really nice, the amount of control I had was a lot better than drawing on paper. It felt so limitless, it definitely sparked my love for art again!

I chose Deadpool because I’m currently reading ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ the 2018 Marvel comic series. Comics are something I’ve been loving lately because my attention span seems to be getting ever shorter and it’s like ‘ooh pretty pictures!’

And in keeping with the Comic thing, I chose Spider-Man Noir next! Spider-Man Noir is very suave, very 1930’s and very gun wielding in comparison to what people are most used to seeing! It was interesting to do a piece that involved more fine lines and detail. I hope I did my favourite Spider-Man some justice!

Then comes my big one. Geralt of Rivia. I’ve been working at this for weeks! I still haven’t finished it because of the amount of detail involved. I’ve poured 12+ hours in and I’m loving it! Geralt is a character from The Witcher, and he’s definitely one of my favourite protagonists – I’ve poured a lot of time into The Wild Hunt and Gwent!

This is the drawing that taught me blending techniques! I did a few Google searches and was on my way. I cannot wait to finish this piece! I will update this post as soon as I do.

Since then I’ve also been practicing drawing facial features and I drew the little self portrait you see in my blog design. This is one of the main ways I’ve been coping lately, I couldn’t recommend it enough – like even if you think you cannot draw get one of those therapeutic colouring books because it really does help the stress.

I keep my new little collection of works on this Instagram here!
